How to Fix a Bail Spring on a Spinning Reel & Reel Oil Application

Reel Maintenance is a crucial behind the scenes skill that any angler needs to learn. The better one knows how to maintain a reel the more time one can spend on the water. No one wants to spend needlessly on reels, so maintaining the reels that you already have is a great sustainable way to not waste materials and it just makes sure you get the most "bang" for your buck. Reel maintenance is a cheep way to make your reels last longer. For example, it only costs six dollars for reel oil and a toothbrush and some screwdrivers are common household products that anyone should have laying around. The first portion of this video breakdowns how to fix a broken bail spring in my five years only Pflueger president 25 reel. The fix was facilitated by scrapping an old Lew's reel that was broken prior to this video on accident. I took out the bail spring from that reel and put it in the other reel. I also broke down different springs one could use instead of ones from reels directly. For example, I broke apart some ballpoint pens and showed how the springs in those pens could be used in the hardware for the bail spring. The second half of this video covers some troubleshooting on cleaning a reel. Applying reel oil is a simple step to keep reels good as new. Keeping the ball bearings well oiled and cleaned is the key to reel longevity.
