Machining tolerances refer to the total amount that a specific dimension is permitted to vary in any machined part. Tolerances also include limits and fits. Limits are the extreme permissible values of a dimension, and fits are the degree of tightness or looseness between any two mating parts which are meant to act together. There are three types of fit: Clearance fit Transition fit Interference fit The ISO system for limits and fits is a coordinated system of hole and shaft tolerance for engineering and manufacturing used for cutting tools, material stick ages, etc. They help to keep measurements consistent globally. The video will also share many examples of tolerances, preferred fits, and an example of the ISO system for limits and fits. ADDENDUM: Some of the calculations here were erroneous. Apologies! ☺️ For transition fit (starts 4:10), please see this slide: https://www.sofeast.com/wp-content/up... For the correct data about interference fit (starts 5:10), please see this slide: https://www.sofeast.com/wp-content/up...
