Dr. Girish Nelivigi | Appointment booking no :70222 09038 / 08048668768 Consultant Urologist and Andrologist|Nelivigi Multispeciality Hospital, Bengaluru I will be talking on a pediatric or a childhood urinary condition called Hypospadias. Hypospadias is a defect where the child passes urine from the under surface of the penis instead of passing it from the tip of the penis. Normally the urethra opens in the tip of the penis and we pass urine from the tip but in Hypospadias the opening of the urethra is on the under surface of the penis. So whenever a child passes urine the urine does not have a straight flow. It falls on the thigh of the child this is a congenital condition which means it is there since birth. This condition is absolutely harmless but it causes lot of anxiety and distress to the patients and if the child grows up without getting this condition treated. It results in lot of social problems for the child the diagnosis of hypospadias is made without any tests the parents. Tell the doctor that the child is passing urine from the undersurface and one look by the doctor will establish the diagnosis the treatment for hypospadias is by surgery. There is no medical treatment for this condition. The surgery lasts for about one and a half hours to sometimes two hours and by some reconstructive methods. The hole is created at the tip of the penis at the end of the procedure. The child will have a catheter in the urethra. The child is discharged on the same day evening or on the next day after surgery. However the catheter in the urethra will be kept for about two weeks for the sutures to heal at the end of two weeks. The catheter is removed and the child will be able to pass urine from the tip of the penis. So hypospadias is a congenital condition but it is effectively treated by surgery. #expertskisuno #hypospadias #UrinaryOpeningCorrection
