On day one of the 16th Great Britain steam tour, 44871 passes Ravensbourne having left Victoria earlier and gone round Kent before heading for Cheltenham Spa and an overnight stop. On the rear was 47 812. For some reason, the train was scheduled on the Catford Loop 3 minutes behind a stopping train which meant it had stopped beyond camera range, restarted (which could be heard quite clearly), and was just cruising ready for the next of no doubt continual signal checks as far as Denmark Hill. This, incidentally, is normal practice on the Catford Loop. The hourly "fast" train always follows a stopper and takes 18 minutes. In the down direction, with a clear run, it takes 11 minutes!
