Reports state that Black women in the UK are more likely to die during pregnancy and birth than their white counterparts. So why is this happening? In this video we hear theories from Midwife Marley, as well as birth stories from Black mums Michelle and Tinuke (founder of the FiveXMore campaign), which highlight the difficulties they faced as Black women giving birth in the UK. If you need support during your pregnancy or have questions about birth / postnatal care, we have a team of trained parent helpers and our resident Health Visitor Maggie waiting to chat to you in our Support Group - https://www.channelmum.com/chat Learn more about the FiveXMore campaign and sign the petition here - https://www.fivexmore.com/ Read the full research from MBRRACE-UK here - https://www.npeu.ox.ac.uk/downloads/f... While the FiveXMore campaign is calling for the government to look into this issue, the main thing Black women can do is learn how to stand up for themselves and be heard. FiveXMore have given these 5 steps to Black women: 1. Speak up If you feel like something isn’t right, make sure you speak to a medical professional and don’t stay silent. 2. Find an advocate to speak up if you can't This could be your partner, a family member or a trusted friend that can speak on your behalf if need be. 3. Seek a second opinion You are allowed to ask for a second opinion of another medical professional if you feel you need to. 4. Trust your gut feeling If you feel like something isn’t right, make sure you speak to a medical professional and don’t stay silent. 5.
