https://neurologyofcannabis.com Sometimes too much THC is not a good thing. Isn’t that right? We’re going to talk about that interesting question today as many patients are concerned about overdoing it with THC or perhaps they’ve had a bad experience. Hi. I’m Dr. Dan Stein, Neurology of Cannabis owner and board-certified neurologist, and we will address that issue today. THC by itself is just one part of the cannabis plant and in some patients, a bad experience having to do with anxiety, fear or palpitations may have occurred sometime in the past. Certainly too much THC can do that, especially in cannabis-naïve users. It turns out however that we can avoid that type of side effect in most patients by using the correct balance of CBD and THC. Interestingly, even though CBD does not bind to the cannabinoid receptor that THC binds to, it acts as a modulator to the THC and reduces those unwanted side effects. So THC by itself, for example as a synthetic analog, can cause side effects like I mentioned earlier. However, when you use CBD along with THC, you can reduce those untoward side effects and have a better experience with THC. There’s another cannabinoid called THCV, tetrahydrocannabivarin, and that also works to reduce the intensity of the response from THC alone. So what we’re learning is that in cannabis medicine, one molecule alone does not do the trick. What we want is a combination of effects from the different cannabinoids, THC, CBD, THCV for example, in this case to reduce unwanted side effects. You may want to ask other questions having to do with cannabinoids or your own personal experience and we are here to address those questions. So please feel free to call 941-400-1211 or email [email protected]. I’m Dr. Stain and that’s our video for today.
