Sunset Spaceflight with the Insta360 Ace Pro & X4 | Behind The Scenes

To test ‪@insta360‬'s new Ace Pro and X4 cameras and their low-light filming capabilities, we filmed a sunset from the edge of space. After our last collaboration, we got loads of comments asking how we got the cameras back, so this time we used Insta360’s technology to document the launch and recovery journey. We built a bespoke spacecraft to carry our camera systems, equipped with live tracking systems that communicate real-time positioning via radio and satellite networks. Our recovery team track the flight throughout the journey and travel to the landing site, collecting the craft minutes after it touches down. Our weather modelling software allows us to calculate flight paths in advance, so we can launch with confidence that we’re avoiding busy and restricted airspace and targeting rural landing zones free of environmental hazards. Concerned about the environmental impact? The balloon is biodegradable, natural latex with no dyes or additives, meaning it breaks down at the same rate as an oak leaf leaving only organic material behind, and is safe and non-toxic in the unlikely event that it’s ingested by animals. We use renewable hydrogen gas to lift our balloons, so no fuel is burnt. Finally, all our components — cameras included — are recovered and can be reused on many future flights.
