Spruce bark beetle in Kluane National Park and Reserve

Parks Canada has the mandate to monitor the ecological integrity in Canada’s national parks. For Kluane National Park and Reserve this means studying the health of its ecosystems – glaciers, fresh water, alpine tundra, and forests over time. Every 10 years the resource conservation team monitors 50 forest plots to study the long-term impacts of spruce bark beetle, a native species in North America that kills mature spruce trees.
