It also houses your olfactory organs, which give you your sense of smell. Words that start with “naso-” (like nasopharyngeal) or “rhino-” (like rhinoplasty) usually refer to your nose. The throat is a ring-like muscular tube. It is the passageway for air, food, and liquid. It also helps in forming speech. The throat is made up of: Tonsils and adenoids.  are made up of lymph tissue and are located at the back of the throat. The tonsils are in the back of the mouth on either side of the throat. They protect against infection but have minimal function after childhood. Voice box (larynx). The larynx is a cylindrical grouping of cartilage, muscles, and soft tissue that contains the vocal cords. Epiglottis. A flap of soft tissue located just above the vocal cords. The epiglottis folds down over the vocal cords to prevent food and irritants from entering the lungs. Your ears are organs that detect and analyses sound. Located on each side of your head, they help with hearing and balance. Your outer ear and middle ear are separated by your eardrum, and your inner ear houses the cochlea, vestibular nerve and semicircular canals (fluid-filled spaces involved in balance and hearing) Your ears are on either side of your head, directly over your temporal lobe . This part of your brain is responsible for hearing, speech, memory and some emotion.
