The video features striking visual images and cinematography with a surreal dynamic. Chen Yi uses a special effect that required me to rattle a wooden stick between two bass wire strings to suggest an eerie, distant rumble of thunder, echoing against the towering upper corners of earth. Five Minutes for Earth features fifteen world premiere compositions, commissioned by the artist, in an eclectic, cross-genre mix of musical atmospheres that finds its thematic inspiration in both the beauty of Earth and the challenges we face in protecting it. With a global flavor that weaves classical, tango, medieval, far-eastern, new age, and experimental threads into a rich sonic fabric, the works are part of a collection that Yolanda Kondonassis has established that will result in monetary contributions to worthy earth conservation organizations with every verified, future performance by any artist, anywhere the world, sponsored by Yolanda’s non-profit foundation, Earth at Heart. Kondonassis says, “In this time of global connectivity, we need more ways to connect in a positive space, gather together as a community, and make important change.
