FREEstate Workshop - This Land

After watching a documentary on Woody Guthrie and discovering the true meaning and story behind "This Land is Your Land / God Blessed America for Me", the wheels started turning for the next FsWs project. Recognizing there was so much more depth to the song than the version he learned as a kid, Fresh began researching. He loved that it was written as a protest tune against the blind patriotic songs of the time, in particular Irving Berlin's "God Bless America". Realizing that this song was not just a piece of Government propaganda but truly a song of the people that spoke of social issues of the day. Played by a man and a machine that killed fascists. Fresh was able to find 7 of the 9 original verses and he reached out to Riddie Becker, of the Grilled Lincolns, to share his thoughts & ideas. Riddie laid the down the acoustic and they were off. Half-cocked idea, full throttle forward. Fresh called on the crew, many familiar faces and voices and Friends of the FREEstate that you have come to know and love, and they were quick to lend a hand. In order of appearance: Julie Cymek - 1st vocals (Sweet Leda) Robert McFreshington - 2nd vocals (blank POINT method) Riddie Becker - 3rd vocals (The Grilled Lincolns) Joey Harkum - 4th vocals (Joey Harkum band) Kelly Bell - 5th vocals (Kelly Bell Band) Brandon Hardesty - 6th vocals (Bumpin Uglies) Drew Daniels - 7th vocals It was then decided to beef up Riddie's original acoustic, rhythm guitar, and they called on Omar El Dieahy (Sweet Leda) to add in his flare of funk. And last but not least, Kevin Cooper was added to bring it home with his sweet singing solo of sound. Behind the scenes work done by AJB, Matthew Edward, Jordan Christopher and Randy LeRoy.
