Mayor Muriel Bowser said Thursday that the curfew in nation's capital is being lifted, although it's not clear from her remarks if the change is ongoing, or just on a trial basis. The local government imposed a curfew for several nights, and Wednesday it was changed from 7p.m. to 11p.m. Metropolitan Police Chief Peter Newsham said there were an estimated 5000 peaceful protesters in Washington on Wednesday. He said local police made no arrests, and there was no damage to the property of the Metropolitan Police Dept. and no injuries to local police officers. "Moving forward over the next couple of days, we expect more of the same," he said. A large protest is expected in the nation's capital on Saturday.  Officials didn't discuss any estimated crowd size, but they predicted it would be peaceful. Military police and law enforcement officers from a variety of federal agencies have been out in force in Washington, and it has caused friction between District officials and the federal government.   City officials don't want the federal response to extend beyond the area around the White House and Lafayette Square.  Washington, D.C. They also don't want national guard troops from other jurisdictions working inside the District.     "We want troops from out of state, out of Washington, D.C," said Muriel Bowser, the District's mayor. They are concerned that fencing that has been erected around Lafayette Square could become permanent, and they want anyone carrying out policing responsibilities to be in uniforms that are identifiable.
