‘Tire dié’ is an Argentine documentary made by Fernando Birri (1925-2017), a filmmaker considered the founder of the so-called “new Latin American cinema” that began to be filmed in that decade with a strong social character, while at the same time setting out to innovate in terms of cinematographic language as an alternative to commercial cinema. The medium-length film released in 1960 and announced as a "survey film", shows the lifestyle of impoverished people and families in the ranchadas in the Argentine province of Santa Fe, who star in the film alongside professional voice actors such as Guillermo Cervantes Luro, María Rosa Gallo and Francisco Petrone. The Argentine cinema survey carried out in 2022 (https://encuestadecineargentino.com/) places ‘Tire dié’ in 24th place among the best 100 films in the history of national production.
