This homemade dark hot chocolate mix is thick, luxurious, and full of deep cocoa flavor. It’s easy to make, stores beautifully, and turns into a café-worthy treat with just hot milk or water. Split the batch and customize it — one for cozy fall vibes, the other for a spicy kick! Ingredients: Hot chocolate base: • 200 g dark chocolate (70% cocoa or higher), finely chopped or grated • 100 g unsweetened cocoa powder • 100 g granulated sugar • 1/6 tsp fine salt Optional: • 100 g milk powder • 1–2 tsp instant coffee • 20 g cornstarch Flavor Variations: Pumpkin Spice Mix: Add 1–2 tsp pumpkin spice blend Spicy Dark Chocolate Mix: Add ¼–½ tsp cayenne powder Caramel Hot Chocolate: Swap the sugar for powdered caramel Method: 1. Add all ingredients to a food processor and pulse until the mixture is evenly combined and no large pieces of chocolate remain. The texture should be fine and uniform. 2. Split the mix into two equal portions to create different flavors — for example, one with pumpkin spice and one with cayenne (or your choice of add-ins). 3. Store the hot chocolate mix in an airtight container in a cool, dry place. If making by hand: Finely grate or chop the chocolate, then whisk thoroughly with the remaining ingredients until well blended. To Prepare a Cup 1. Heat 250 ml (1 cup) milk (or milk + water mix) in a saucepan until steaming. 2. Whisk in 2–3 tablespoons of the mix. 3. Simmer gently, whisking until smooth and thickened. Serve immediately — top with whipped cream, marshmallows, or a dusting of cocoa. Tips & Notes: You can make this hot chocolate using only the base ingredients — dark chocolate, cocoa powder, sugar (or powdered caramel), and salt — for a simple, intense chocolate flavor. However, adding a few optional boosters takes it to the next level: • Milk powder adds creaminess and body. • Instant coffee enhances the depth of the chocolate without making it taste like coffee. • Cornstarch is the secret to a thick, velvety texture. If you include cornstarch, the mixture needs to be cooked on the stove, simmering for 1–2 minutes until thickened. If you skip the starch, you can simply stir the mix into hot milk or water — quick and easy, no cooking required. You can increase the cornstarch if you want an even thicker, more decadent hot chocolate. Just be careful — add too much, and you might end up with chocolate pudding instead of a drink! 0:00 Intro 0:13 Base Ingredients & Optional Add-Ins 0:31 Hot Chocolate Mix 1:13 Flavor Variations 1:28 Storage 1:51 Making a Cup 2:24 Outro
