Patty Leong calls herself OHSU Hospital's secret weapon. As an Administrator on Duty (AOD), she knows everything from where the emergency walkie-talkies are stored to what to do if there's a water leak on a unit. She carries hearing aid batteries and cough drops in her pocket in case a patient needs them. She deftly manages placement and staffing for 10 incoming trauma patients. She knows every hallway, elevator, stairway and secret passageway in the hospital. Patty can explain the results of an autopsy -- even for someone's pet turtle. In her role -- which is shared with six other employees -- she is in charge of hospital operations. Any time of the day or night, any situation involving bed flow and patient placement, staffing levels and facility infrastructure, any emergency -- Patty is called to keep things running smoothly.
