Adresse : Château de Pourtalès, 161 rue Mélanie, F-67000 Strasbourg Pourtalès castle was built in 1750 on the foundations of the country house of the Bussière family, a wealthy family of industrialists from Strasbourg. Between 1870 and 1914, Countess Mélanie and Count Edmond de Pourtalès received in their castle the "who's who" of the European nobility, as well as some of the most famous diplomats, philosophers and artists in Europe. Albert Schweitzer, Franz Liszt, Napoleon III, Empress Eugenie, Louis I of Bavaria, Prince Metternich, to name a few, were their guests. The two world wars caused considerable damage to the castle and in the castle. The castle was in very poor condition when Dr Walter Leibrecht, founder of the Schiller International University, purchased the building in 1972 and began its reconstruction. Harald and Ulrike Leibrecht took over the castle in 2007 and continued to renovate and expand it. In 2009, the Destination travel agency joined the project and the main building and the outbuildings ("Le Chalet") were transformed into a hotel. In November 2019, the new building "Le Parc" was completed. It complements the existing hotel offer with now a total of 48 rooms and a contemporary event room of 240 m2. Le Château de Pourtalès est situé au nord-est de la ville de Strasbourg, dans le quartier de la Robertsau à environ 4,6 km du centre de Strasbourg et à 2,4 km des institutions européennes.
