Swathi Thirunal Bala Rama Varma (16 April 1813 – 26 December 1846) was the Maharaja of the Kingdom of Travancore. He is also considered as a brilliant music composer and is credited with over 400 classical compositions in both Carnatic and Hindustani style.A well-formulated code of laws, courts of justice, introduction of English education, construction of an observatory, installation of the first Government printing press, establishment of the first manuscripts library were amongst the many initiatives taken by Swathi Tirunal, as a King, to modernise Travancore. KUTHIRAMALIKA An architectural marvel located near the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram is Kuthiramalika, the Mansion of Horses. It is a pristine two-storied palace built by Swathi Thirunal Balarama Varma, who was a Maharaja of the Kingdom of Travancore in British India. This majestic structure made from rosewood, granite, teakwood, and marble is an exemplary example of traditional Kerala style architecture. 122 horses are carved into the wooden wall brackets that support the southern roof of the Palace. METHAN MANI Methan Mani is a clock tower which stands next to the Padmanabha Swamy Temple, East Fort, Thiruvananthapuram in the south west Indian state of Kerala.
