Marcela’s journey from Guatemala for complex cardiac surgery | Boston Children’s Hospital

Marcela was born in Guatemala with her heart formed outside of her chest, along with other rare and complex cardiac and abdominal abnormalities (ectopia cordis, omphalocele, double outlet right ventricle, and pulmonary valve stenosis). Her mom, Isabel, never stopped advocating for her daughter’s health, leading them to Boston Children’s Hospital to receive expert care. After a team of cardiac specialists and doctors performed life-changing surgery on Marcela, she now is thriving as a healthy two-year-old.
