Micro Japanese Lesson #13: All about adjectives!

There are two kinds of adjectives in Japanese: い-adjectives and な-adjectives. い-adjectives work very similarly to adjectives in English. We can place them directly before a noun to describe it. 辛いカレー（からいカレー）Spicy curry 大きいバス（おおきいバス）Big bus 狭い道（せまいみち）Narrow street With な-adjectives, though, we need to place な before the noun we are describing. 変な人（へんなひと）A weird person 複雑な問題（ふくざつなもんだい）A complicated problem 大変な状況（たいへんなじょうきょう）A dangerous situation All い-adjectives will end in い, but な-adjectives can end in many different characters; even い. A classic example is 綺麗（きれい）As you can see, when written in Hiragana, it ends in い, but in Kanji, there is no trailing い character. That is why it is important to learn and study Kanji!
