Part One - Vintage 1981 Electrolux Z355 Vacuum Cleaner - Restoration - From Trash to Treasure

The first machine to go under the knife from our big vacuum cleaner haul over the weekend. Our 355 has had a hard life so it’s time to give it some love. Join me as we see if the cleaner works and if not, what we need to do in order to get it running. In the video we’ll take the 355 apart, do some repairs and get it going again. In order to access the motor on an Electrolux 355 or 358 you have to ‘bend’ the metal of the rear body outwards because the motor back plate is not screwed into place like the earlier machines. If you’ve never seen this done before it looks horrific but trust me when I say this is actually the correct method for taking them apart! One thing that I hadn’t realised was just how incredibly early this 355 is. The serial number dates it to January 1981 and this model was launched in ’81 so it’s one of the first off the production line.
