A baby whale died and was beached on the peninsula. This provided an opportunity to watch the local bear population jockey for position to try and eat the whale. There is an incredible hierarchical social structure based on age, size and agility, and we got to see those showdowns of force in action. We ventured across the peninsula and discovered other breathtaking locations where bears roam freely. Flying over and along the rugged coastline, we witnessed bears grazing in lush meadows, swimming in the ocean, and lazily sleeping on the beach. Katmai's bear viewing experience is not just about observing wildlife; it's about immersing yourself in the raw beauty of Alaska's wilderness and gaining a deeper appreciation for these magnificent creatures.
