When I first decided to grow my own food, I was intimidated by the amount of labor I imagined would be involved. Everyone told me, “fruit trees are a lot of work.” “Growing a garden is hard, makes more sense to buy food at the market.” I imagined myself laboring in the hot sun for hours for a few beans and peppers. But if that's what it took, I was willing to do the work. I was determined to fulfill my dream. I’m so glad I discovered permaculture. Instead of toiling in the hot sun, I'll soon be harvesting abundance in the shade of a food forest. In this video I describe how I used guilds to reduce the amount of labor and inputs required to keep my annual crops and perennial crops happy, healthy, and productive.
