On March 6, 2025, Turkish defense company Baykar and Italian aerospace giant Leonardo formed a joint venture to produce unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), aiming to reshape Europe’s $100 billion drone market. Baykar brings proven platforms like the Bayraktar TB2 and the advanced AKINCI, while Leonardo contributes expertise in avionics and AI systems. A key part of the partnership is the KIZILELMA, an unmanned fighter jet designed to act as a "loyal wingman" alongside manned jets. The collaboration comes at a crucial time as Europe struggles with slow progress in its Eurodrone program and faces security challenges, exemplified by the war in Ukraine. Baykar’s success with drones like the TB2 has raised European concerns about lagging behind in drone technology. The KIZILELMA, already in testing, could compete with Europe’s ambitious Future Combat Air System (FCAS) program, which is years behind schedule. This partnership could offer Europe faster access to advanced drone technology but also risks fragmenting the continent’s defense efforts, especially as Italy balances the FCAS with this new Turkish-Italian alternative. #Kizilelma #FCAS #Turkey Note: Full Credits to Owners (All Images, Information, Footages shown in the video belong to their respective owners).
