The Speed Demon:1912 Auto Race

The story line of this farce-comedy was built around the early California road race held in Santa Monica. The grandstand filled with spectators and the actual race were used as a background, although the actors had nothing to do with the race itself. The humor arises from the attempts of two members of the Biograph cast to become racing drivers and win the race by cutting across a plowed field. The last scenes occur after a title that says "Hours Later," and our heroes are shown arriving in their ancient automobile on the race track late in the afternoon after all the spectators have gone home.
