Colossians #6 | Pastor Brandon Hilgemann | November 23, 2025 | Arizona Community Church | https://www.az.church | Giving: https://www.az.church/give Need Prayer? https://az.church/prayer Watch Next: • Good News For All | Pastor Brandon Hilgemann COLOSSIANS: THE SUPREMACY OF CHRIST AND THE GOSPEL LESSON 6: ONCE ALIENATED NOW ANCHORED TODAY’S PASSAGE Colossians 1:21-23 (ESV)... 21 And you, who once were alienated and hostile in mind, doing evil deeds, 22 he has now reconciled above reproach before his body of flesh by his death, in order to present you holy and blameless and above reproach before him, 23 if indeed you continue in the faith, stable and steadfast, not shifting from the hope of the gospel that you heard, which has been proclaimed in all creation under heaven, and of which I, Paul, became a minister. JESUS' MESSAGE HAS CHANGED MILLIONS OF LIVES 1. Former addicts, now free. Former killers, now gentle… and many more. 2. Paul shows us three powerful realities in Colossians 1:21-23. WHO YOU WERE (V.21) 1. Alienated – separated from God. Spiritual outcast. 2. Hostile in mind – enemies of God’s Word and God’s ways. 3. Doing evil – sinful actions flowing from sinful nature. WHO YOU ARE (V.22) 1. Reconciled – Jesus restored our relationships with God. 2. In his body of flesh – Jesus took our place. 3. By his death – Jesus took our penalty. 4. Presented holy and blameless – Jesus gives us his righteousness. WHO YOU MUST BE (v.23) 1. Continue in the faith – not drifting but holding to Christ. 2. If - Can you lose your salvation? 3. Jesus won’t lose any who are his (John 10:27 -28; Romans 8:38 -39). 4. Those without faith either never had it or God isn’t finished with them yet (1 John 2:19). 5. Christ is your anchor. The storm may toss you, but it can’t take you. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS 1. What does Paul’s description of who we were in v.21 reveal about the human condition? 2. Why is it significant that Christ reconciled us to God “in his body of flesh by his death”? 3. How can Christ possibly present us holy and blameless before God? 4. Why does understanding and remembering our past condition deepen our gratitude? 5. How have you experienced Christ as your anchor in the storms of life? 6. Where do you see people most tempted to shift from the hope of the gospel? 7. What might help you remain steadfast and stable in your faith? TN: Struggling To Forgive Yourself? God Forgave You
