Almost two year ago, I bicycled the same stretch. Since then, almost all of the bicycle path has been asphalted, so that's good, but the two underpasses are still submerged in water and therefore impassable. And the big stack of water pipes are still blocking the bicycle path, too. So, yeah, still some way to go..... Link to my previous video 2 years ago: • Bicycle Lane along Federal Highway to Re-O... Let's not forget that this key bicycle connector between Kuala Lumpur, Petaling Jaya, Shah Alam and Klang has been closed for 10 years now. So, it's about high time to get it re-established. The video is interspersed with images and quotes from a recent article by Lew Guan Xi, journalist for The Star newspaper, who wrote a cover story in the Star Metro section entitled "Sharing goes off track: Cyclists are calling on authorities to restore markings and signage along the Federal Highway bike lane to reinforce its original purpose of shared usage with motorcyclists". The articles quotes two people who worked on the construction of the Federal Highway, engineer Tan Seng Khoon and enginner G. Ramasamy, both of whom confirm that that lane was built to be shared by slower traffic such as bicycles and motorbikes. Here's a link to this article from The Star newspaper article published on 24 Oct 2025: https://www.thestar.com.my/metro/metr... The video also shows an image from when the founder of the World Bicycle Day, Dr. Sibilski, visited the Federal Highway bicycle lane on 15 June 2025, and strongly encouraged the municipality to re-open it otherwise it would be "a waste of public funds" to have constructed the infrastructure but not using it. See article from Dr. Leszek Jan Sibilski's visit to Kuala Lumpur where he also handed over the 2025 Special Award World Bicycle Day of the United Nations to Jeffrey Lim, founder of the KL Bicycle Map project and pioneering advocate of bicycling in Malaysia. The award is meant to give recognition to the "unsung heroes of cycling": https://www.ien.com.my/post/mr-world-... The video closes with the AI generated image by The Star of how cyclists ride along the Federal Highway - as per the original design intent. Let's get it done!
