Re-approximating flapped papilla is vital to avoid gingival recession and can often be used to coronally position flaps for connective tissue grafting. This suture technique only engages buccal tissue and utilizes the teeth themselves to sling around and tighten the buccal attached tissue back around the facial aspect of the teeth. The first bite is at the base of the buccal papilla on either side of the tooth in question. The suture is passed underneath the contact point (if present) without engaging the lingual tissue. The needle is then passed under the contact point on the other side of the tooth being used as a sling, once again without engaging the lingual tissue. The second bite is at the base of second buccal papilla, engaging from buccal to lingual similar to the first throw. Once more the needle is passed under both contact points so the needle is back where it started. The knot is secured and both papilla will be slung closely to the tooth the suture is engaging.
