This relaxing natural sounds drive begins at the entrance of St. Andrews State Park and follows the route back into town across the bay. St. Andrews State Park sits beside Grand Lagoon and is one of the most visited state parks in Florida. This drive also runs alongside the Navy Base in a milestone year — the U.S. Navy is celebrating its 250th birthday in 2025. Along the way we cross two large bodies of water: Grand Lagoon and St. Andrew Bay. Using the Hathaway Bridge, which connects Panama City Beach to Panama City across the bay, we get to the "city side". We also pass by Gulf Coast State College, one of the main community colleges in Northwest Florida. The drive ends at the entrance of the TRUMP Store. Only a small number of Trump-themed retail stores still exist nationwide, and stores like this one recall the tradition of campaign-era souvenir and “personality” shops once seen during the presidencies of John F. Kennedy and Ronald Reagan. These shops are not government-affiliated, but many of them operate as local novelty or tourism stops. This is a calm, easy cruise with natural ambience — except for one moment when a lawn care trailer in front of me curb-checks a turn hard enough to bounce two ladders and a wheelbarrow into the air.
