MALIBU, Calif. (March 25, 2025) — On Tuesday, Santa Monica Closeup traveled along the Pacific Coast Highway from Santa Monica to the Malibu Pier to document ongoing recovery operations following the devastating Palisades Fire. Though the highway remains closed to the public, it now serves as a vital operations corridor for rebuilding efforts and securing fire-damaged zones. Crews with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) continued Phase Two of debris removal along Pacific Coast Highway (PCH), focusing on properties destroyed in the blaze. Workers removed hazardous ash, structural debris, and other fire-related waste in preparation for the rebuilding process. Security and traffic control remain in place throughout the corridor. National Guard troops, along with officers from the Los Angeles Police Department and Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, are stationed at key checkpoints to restrict access to authorized personnel only. The California Highway Patrol continues to patrol the area, where a 25 mph speed limit is temporarily enforced to protect workers and crews along the route. Residents and contractors must show valid entry permits to access the restricted zones. Meanwhile, utility crews are restoring vital infrastructure. Teams from the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) and Southern California Edison are working to restore electrical service. SoCalGas is re-energizing gas lines, while Frontier Communications, Verizon, and Spectrum work to reestablish internet and phone service across fire-impacted neighborhoods. The Palisades Fire, which erupted on January 7, 2025, consumed approximately 23,448 acres across Pacific Palisades, Malibu, and the San Fernando Valley. Fueled by hurricane-force Santa Ana winds and prolonged drought conditions, the wildfire destroyed 6,837 structures—including homes, businesses, and places of worship—and displaced over 100,000 residents. High winds grounded firefighting aircraft and complicated containment efforts. The fire was declared fully contained on January 31, 2025. As Phase Two recovery efforts progress, local, state, and federal agencies remain committed to restoring normalcy in the region. Cleanup operations are ongoing, with authorities urging patience as work continues to prepare the area for safe rebuilding. ''''''''''''''''''''''' 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗼 𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝘂𝘀𝗲.
