M.S. in Animals and Public Policy (MAPP) Externship Experience -Tania Roa May-August 2020 As an International Policy Intern for World Animal Net, I researched and drafted comments for the Convention on Biological Diversity’s peer review process. I also wrote a blog, assisted with the quarterly newsletter, and helped create an online exhibition for the Animal Issues Thematic Cluster’s side event at the United Nations’ High-Level Political Forum. I learned about regenerative food systems, the effects of the wildlife trade, and the dire need to include animal welfare in international policies. During the MAPP program, I learned about the human activities threatening biodiversity, various ways of advocating for animals, and how to interact with different audiences in person and online. My classes and internship emphasized the links between the well-being of animals, people, and our planet. By acknowledging these connections, I plan to use the skills I have gained to fight for a future where all people and nonhuman animals are appreciated. https://grad.vet.tufts.edu/world-anim... About MS in Animals and Public Policy (MAPP) MAPP is an intensive, 12-to-16-month graduate degree program that focuses on human-animal relationships and their implications for policy and community action. While students enter the program with different interests, skills, philosophies, and aspirations, all share a passion for understanding human-animal relationships and promoting the status of animals in society. About Tufts Center for Animals and Public Policy The mission of the Tufts Center for Animals and Public Policy is to conduct and encourage the study of complex issues surrounding the changing role and impact of animals in society. The Center supports the development and dissemination of research driven policies, programs and practices that benefit both people and animals. Work conducted by the Center is based on the tenets that animal well-being matters, that animal and human well-being are linked, and that both are enhanced through improved understanding of human-animal relationships. email: [email protected] website: http://vet.tufts.edu/capp Facebook: / center.for.animals
