The reasons for abuse could be many, it might be a result of an addiction or mental health disorders. In many cases Divorce is not an option, so the abuse continues for several years especially when the victim of abuse is financially dependent on their partner. Domestic Violence also happens especially as a result of alcoholism and these cases go un-reported due to societal pressure.
