Some of my viewers may not know what a 1972 Mellotron M400 is, so I made a video that explains what it is, and demonstrate how it works! I should have mentioned, although I demonstrate (from 1:29 to 1:40), is the note/tape plays only a maximum of approximately 8 seconds. When the key is released, springs return the tape to its beginning position. You can hear it in the video. Also, tape frames, with different sounds could be custom ordered, and the tape frames could be changed in 2 or 3 minutes or less. There are several YouTube videos showing how to change tape frames, or cartridges as some call them. And, you could blend, or mix two adjacent sounds by moving the track selector (sound changing) knob between A and B, or B and C. If you have any questions, please ask them in the comment section. I'll try to answer them as quickly and to the best of my ability. Interesting Mellotron facts. There are now two companies making Mellotrons! The original Streetly Electronics started making Mellotrons in 1963. Streetly went into liquidation in 1986 and in 1989 the bankrupt estate of Mellotron in the US and the remains of all the associated UK companies were acquired by David Kean. He resurrected the Mellotron brand and provided needed parts and tapes to Mellotron enthusiasts. Markus Resch became a partner in this venture, eventually producing the Mark VI Mellotron, a new and improved tape-replay instrument in 1999. Markus still runs Mellotron.com. The company now based in Sweden concentrates on and sells beautiful digital Mellotrons. https://www.digitalmellotron.com Streetly Electronics reformed and after doing Mellotron repairs, restorations and service for a while have designed and built a completely new analog tape playing Mellotron, the incredible M4000. https://www.mellotronics.com//index.htm EXCELLENT READING... https://www.soundonsound.com/reviews/...
