A recap of what took place in the village of Kill, Co. Kildare during this year's Feile Liam O'Flynn. The unveiling of a commemorative sculpture titled, Liam O'Flynn Píobaire. Liam O’Flynn Píobaire is a limestone sculpture that represents Liam’s hands as he plays the uilleann pipes. Given Liam's humility and modesty, he would have surely felt uneasy with a traditional figurative carving. Instead, I believe this portrayal of his hands authentically captures the essence of Liam and his music, symbolizing both Liam and all pipers and musicians at large. Despite the heavy wind and rain, a large crowd gathered for the event. Our former President, Dr. Mary McAleese, delivered a beautifully poignant keynote speech and participated in the unveiling of the sculpture. As Liam's nephew, I also had the honour of giving a speech, followed by a solo performance of the Air, Easter Snow. This was followed by a musical tribute featuring many of our country’s finest pipers & musicians, including Mick O'Brien, Kevin Rowsome, Mark Redmond, Colm Broderick, Niamh Dalton, Declan Masterson, Eammon Walsh, Brian Crehan, Steve Cooney and Liam Winnett. 00:00 Introduction and Honoring Liam's Legacy 00:48 Liam's Impact on Generations 01:36 Influence on the World of Piping 02:16 Liam's Mastery of Slow Airs 02:47 Mary McAleese: Liam on the International Stage 03:30 Mary McAleese: A Personal Tribute and Lasting Memories 04:12 Mary McAleese: Memorable Moments and Cultural Command
