Travis C. Vasconcelos at the keyboard of the Thomas J. Nichol steam calliope that served, originally, aboard the Str. SIDENY/ WASHINGTON from 1911 until 1938, the boat that Louis Armstrong started on under the leadership of band leader and calliope player, Fate Marable. It then served aboard the Str. SENATOR until 1953, and later on the Str. SUCCES in Holland in the early 1990's. The instrument was purchased in 2022, and placed aboard the Str. NATCHEZ in 2025 in time for the America's River Roots Festival in Cincinnati, OH. In this video, we hear Travis's rendition of "If I Had My Life to Live Over", which was a staple song of Homer Denney, calliope player aboard the Cincinnati-based Str. ISLAND QUEEN (no's 1 and 2).
