On 3 February 2026, Lawyers for Human Rights, in collaboration with Section27 and Collective Voices, hosted a webinar on how to make submissions on the Draft Revised White Paper on Citizenship, Immigration and Refugee Protection (2025). The Department of Home Affairs released the draft on 12 December 2025 as part of a proposed overhaul of South Africa’s migration system. The Department invited public comment and the deadline for submissions was extended to 15 February 2026. A copy of the call for comment and the extension was published by the Department. The proposed policy framework has significant implications for citizens, refugees, asylum seekers, migrant workers and other vulnerable groups. The webinar unpacked those implications and offered practical guidance on drafting effective, evidence based submissions for the consultation process. Presenters emphasised that submissions from people and communities directly or indirectly affected by the reforms would help the Department better understand public concerns and recommendations. The session ran from 10:00 to 11:10 AM SAST, UTC+02:00. We thank all participants for their contributions and engagement.
