The Australian’s Sophie Elsworth says Victoria’s border exemption system is something Premier Daniel Andrews should “hang his head in shame over”. Victorian Ombudsman Deborah Glass, in a report tabled to the parliament, said the state's travel permit system was a “bureaucratic nightmare” and “inhumane”. Between July 9 and September 14, only 2,736 exemptions were given out of 33,252 Victorians who applied through the system. “The sheer arrogance of our Premier Daniel Andrews just never ceases to amaze me ... absolutely shameful that Victorians were locked out of their own state,” Ms Elsworth told Sky News host Chris Smith. “The fact that this Premier gets up in front of Victorians and says that it’s a triumph the way we’ve handled things down here is absolutely shameful. “I hope Victorians are paying attention to this man because his arrogance is just off the charts.”
