The original members of the quintet were Miles Davis on trumpet, John Coltrane on tenor saxophone, Red Garland on piano, Paul Chambers on bass, and Philly Joe Jones on drums. This lineup is widely regarded as one of the most influential and groundbreaking jazz groups of all time. The quintet's music evolved over time, starting with a hard bop sound in the mid-1950s and moving towards modal jazz in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Some of their most famous albums include "Cookin'", "Relaxin'", "Workin'", and "Steamin'", all recorded in 1956, and "Kind of Blue", released in 1959, which is considered one of the greatest jazz albums of all time.
