The Barbados Defence Force’s (BDF) Emergency Medical Team (EMT) Field Medical Hospital continued to advance its mission in Jamaica under Operation Helping Hands, completing critical infrastructure that will enable the delivery of urgent medical care to communities affected by Hurricane Melissa. Day 3 of the deployment focused on finalizing the accommodation area, with EMT personnel completing anchoring, structural adjustments, and internal layouts. With this milestone achieved, the accommodation zone reached full operational readiness, ensuring that medical staff and support teams are properly housed for sustained operations. Significant progress was also made in establishing support infrastructure. A mess hall was erected to serve as both a dining and coordination space, while a kitchen tent was set up to provide safe and efficient food preparation. Additionally, a storage facility was organized to safeguard essential equipment and supplies, laying the foundation for reliable and sustained mission delivery. A major logistical task was the offloading of a 40-foot container carrying critical equipment, including two generators. These generators will provide reliable electrical power to the accommodation area and the upcoming hospital facilities, ensuring continuity of operations in challenging conditions. Throughout the day, the BDF EMT worked hand-in-hand with soldiers from the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) 4th Battalion Platoon. Their assistance in lifting, carrying, and securing materials reinforced the cooperative spirit of Operation Helping Hands, highlighting the strength of Caribbean unity in times of crisis.
