The research suggests that progesterone is a negative predictor of libido—where high levels of progesterone are associated with low levels of libido, estrogen is a positive predictor—where high levels of estrogen are associated with high libido, & low levels are associated with low libido, & that testosterone levels do not reliably predict female libido. → Roney & Simmons 2013 study: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/23601... ✩ Interpreting The Results Of A Hormone Level Test: 6:55 There are three kinds of hormone tests—blood tests, saliva tests, & urine tests. Blood tests & saliva tests are more commonly used in the clinic, where urine tests are more commonly used in research. While blood tests measure both free & total testosterone levels, they tend to only measure total levels of estrogen & progesterone. Saliva tests tend to measure only the free levels of testosterone, estrogen, & progesterone. Barring financial- and/or insurance-related constraints, it may be helpful for have both tests performed, in order to know both total & free hormone levels. “Normal” hormone levels can differ pending on the laboratory performing the test & the kind of test performed. Different labs may have different “normal value ranges,” or “normal value references.” It may be helpful to ask the lab performing the test for a copy of their normal value references, in order to compare results with those references.
