Tropical Depression Basyang (international name: Penha) is forecast to make its third landfall over the southern portions of Cebu and Negros Oriental between Friday evening and early Saturday morning, Feb. 7, before weakening into a low pressure area (LPA), according to the state weather bureau. As of 4:00 p.m., Basyang was located in the vicinity of Dauis, Bohol. It packs maximum sustained winds of 55 kph and gustiness of up to 75 kph while moving west-southwestward at 15 kph. It previously made landfall as a tropical storm over Bayabas, Surigao del Sur at 11:50 p.m. on Thursday, in Jagna, Bohol at 11:00 a.m. on Friday and in Dauis, Bohol at 4:00 p.m. “Naka-contribute sa paghina nitong si Bagyong Basyang yung landfalls po niya,” Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) weather specialist Benison Estareja said in public briefing. Estareja said that despite weakening, Basyang will still bring heavy rains over portions of Central Visayas, Negros Island Region, and Western Visayas as well as scattered rains over MIMAROPA, Bicol, Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, and Northern Mindanao.
