They’re saying this is the coldest day we’ve seen since 1985. Wind gusts 40–50 mph. And let me tell you — I have never felt cold like this in all my years of owning a farm. Water lines freezing. Coops frozen shut. Buckets turning to ice. And me out there looking like the Michelin Man trying to keep everybody alive and warm. People see snow and think it’s pretty. Farmers see snow and start doing math in their heads. Who needs water? Who needs extra hay? Who needs checking again in 30 minutes? This weather will humble you real fast. But here’s what I’ve learned… You don’t fight weather like this. You work through it. One chore, one animal, one step at a time. And somehow, in the middle of all that chaos, the farm is still the most peaceful place on earth. Still puzzled. Still frozen. Still grateful.
