From the anguishing opening cry of ‘Kyrie’ to the panegyric shouting of ‘Hosanna’, the Mass surveys the human soul from sorrow to ecstasy. This piece shows one of the greatest composers of all time writing at the height of his craft. The music, for solo flute, oboe d’amore, violin, trumpet, and voice, represents the apex of Bach’s evolution as master of counterpoint. Since its completion in 1749, the B Minor Mass has continued to inspire musicians and audiences alike. The American Classical Orchestra will perform this inspiring masterpiece on historically authentic instruments faithful to what Bach knew in 1748, re-creating the sound that he had intended. “The best thing about the Jubilate is that it brought the ACO Chorus to the stage – and they are as fine as the Orchestra.” New York Classical Review “Something special is happening to the American Classical Orchestra...the period band’s evolution in recent seasons and its rising prominence on the New York City’s music scene suggest that good times are around the corner.” Early Music Today “Warm strings simmered under the glorious sound the massed choirs produced.” The New York Times
