Join me for a real time walk along the beach in Galveston Island State Park in the late afternoon. Galveston Island State Park was recently closed for renovations, and now it is reopened. The park is located on Galveston Island, which is on the coast of Texas along the Gulf of Mexico. Galveston Island State Park has two sides. One side is along the bay, facing the mainland. The other side of the park is along the beach, facing the Gulf of Mexico. This section of the beach is part of the state park. This section of the park has restrooms, outdoor showers, parking, changing rooms, and picnic areas. The park also has campsites, hiking trails, a nature center, and paddle trails for kayakers. The visitor center sells beach towels, beach themed stuffed animals, and beach bags. Day use for the park has a $5 entry fee for anyone ages 13 and up. Texas State Parks passes are available for $70 per year. Passholders and the guests they bring with them in their vehicle are not required to pay the day use fee. There are additional charges for campsites. Reservations for the park should be made online in advance.
