16ft Tall 33ft Wide (Fully Filled) 261ft Long Single Closed End (SCE) AquaDam®, Snake River, Nome Boat Harbor, Inner Harbor Launch Ramp, Boat Ramp, Horseshoe/”U” Shape Configuration The Inner Harbor Launch Ramp project in Nome, Alaska required dry repair work, and instead of traditional sheet-pile methods, the contractor used a 16ft tall, 261ft long SCE AquaDam®. Delivered rolled around a central log, the AquaDam® was positioned on a starting bank built with super sacs to elevate and protect its open end and fill-tubes. Using heavy equipment and straps, the crew unrolled and guided the structure into the water, then began filling it with pumps to inflate it into a watertight barrier. The AquaDam®’s lightweight, flexible design allowed it to float when empty, conform to uneven substrates, and be maneuvered with ropes and rigging for precise alignment. During inflation, anchors helped stabilized the dam against hydraulic forces during installation, while additional sacs at the ending bank controlled seepage at the sheet-pile junction. The AquaDam® was deployed in a U-shaped configuration, with careful rope manipulation and pump adjustments guiding its turn. Ultimately, the structure was fully unrolled, securely abutted against the sheet-pile wall, and completely filled, marking a successful installation that isolated the repair zone.
