Within the scope of the artillery weapon needs of the Turkish Armed Forces, Air Transportable Light Towed Howitzer Development Project is being carried out. Machinery and Chemical Industry Corporation and ASELSAN are working on the Boran 105 millimeter air transportable light towed howitzer developed within the scope of the project. Boran, a low weight towed howitzer, was designed to be transported by air. The system was developed to provide fire support to commando brigades, as well as use in internal security and air attack operations. Boran will provide this support with a 105 millimeter diameter 30-caliber barrel. Within the scope of the project, shooting and helicopter transport tests have been carried out so far. Showing its effectiveness in firing tests, Boran was not affected negatively in transportation and did not create a balance problem for the helicopter. Finally, successful tests were carried out with the howitzer's fire control system. ASELSAN, which developed the Fire Control System for the Boran 105 millimeter air transportable light towed howitzer, demonstrated in the tests that the system met the requirements. Thanks to the fire control system, howitzer will function effectively and integrated with other fire support units. The Artillery Fire Control Systems developed by ASELSAN enable the transfer, deployment, fire preparation, fire management and fire control operations of self-propelled / towed howitzer, mortar and multi-barrel rocket launchers to be performed with the help of computers and digital integration into fire support elements. The howitzer, with a total weight of 1710 kilograms, including the shot control system, can be transported by Sikorsky S-70 helicopters and various light vehicles. Thus, it will provide a significant logistical advantage for troops in need of shot support.
