A dedicated team of Hospital Infection Control Nurses use WHO’s 5 Moments of Hand hygiene as a tool for monitoring hand hygiene practices of all healthcare workers. With the support of the hospital administration and a committed hospital infection control system, JPNA Trauma Centre has pioneered innovation and continues to set newer benchmarks in healthcare. Jai Prakash Narayan Apex Trauma Centre is the proud recipient of WHO Hand Hygiene Excellence Award Asia Pacific for the year 2015, the only public sector hospital in India to win this award. Sepsis arises when an infection alters the body's normal response causing injury to tissue and organs. Every year Sepsis affects 30 million people, 3 million new born babies and 1.2 million children worldwide. Anyone with an infection can develop sepsis but some are more at risk than others like pregnant women, neonates, elderly, immunosuppressed people, patients with chronic diseases and hospitalized patients. In healthcare set-up, sepsis can be prevented by practicing the 5 moments of hand hygiene, providing a well-functioning environment and equipment, safe water and sanitation and adopting infection prevention measures. Infection Prevention and Control (IPC), which includes hand hygiene, is fundamental to safe and effective health care systems. Hand hygiene is relevant to all health workers, patients and their families at every single health care encounter. It contributes to quality universal health coverage, meeting Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) and also strongly supports the water, sanitation, hygiene and health (WASH) and global antimicrobial resistance (AMR) agendas
