'Purple Violin' was the debut album of BEVERLEE (fka Abby Diamond) award-winning 'Best New Writer' at the Songwriters Hall of Fame and songwriter behind the Billboard #1 Dance Hit "Places", who launched her career touring with the Barenaked Ladies. This proudly queer, left-of-center pop collection is a celebration of unheard voices — featuring stories of women stuck in a liminal space, somewhere between who they are and who they've yet to become. Inspired by Diamond's experience of embracing her queer identity, BEVERLEE delivered a post-pandemic album that gave voice to a time of collective rebirth. The album’s cover visuals was even referred to in Taylor Swift’s latest music video for Lavender Haze. In recent months, BEVERLEE has contributed to co-writing O.A.R’s latest single “In the Clouds” and writing the theme song “Need to Be Needed” for the box office hit “The Invitation.” Her new single WINDOW continues the story of Beverlee, but in the “when the film ends” moment of settling into the body and embracing radical self-compassion. “I am here and queer, but how do I live comfortably in this world?” BEVERLEE posits. “I wanted to explore a more spiritual and philosophical way of being. Window’s first verse is about spilling my purse out over a girlfriend’s shoulder – if I show you my shit, will you see and accept me? It then goes to 'I am a window, I let the light in' refrain which is about self-acceptance. I can be who I am and not need to reveal too much right away or worry about being too much or not enough for someone so long as I’m enough for me. Acceptance and belonging start with me." The music video for Window is directed by Chris Guerrero, an award-winning filmmaker whose films have premiered at international festivals and who has worked on viral comedy works for Buzzfeed and a variety of other networks. The film co-stars and is produced by Stef Estep-Gozalo, a Queer Latinx actor, filmmaker, musician and writer whose work typically centers on examining the intersections of race, gender and class within the context of history, pop culture and horror genres. The concept for the video is a lesbian Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind where Beverlee keeps reliving and trying to cling to memories of her relationship with Stef, which by the end of the video have quite literally washed away. “Stef is my best friend and we actually wrote a fun article about Fletcher’s Becky’s So Hot where we talked about memory and nostalgia in a relationship. After writing that together, we thought it would be really cool to work on a video where we actually live that out and Chris had the idea of Sunshine and was really into the idea of water and washing away of memory. We enlisted Stef Federov to set design environments that were transportable – a window in a living room which also is then on the beach – and Kadri Koop had a really organic way of capturing us falling in and out of love. Having motion to see the ebbs and flows and tension.” http://vevo.ly/SM7NBV
