What is confession and when did Jesus institute it? If Jesus instituted the sacrament of confession right after his resurrection, what would that tell us about the level of importance this holds for Jesus? At the end of the Gospel of John, Jesus appears to the apostles -- who had just abandoned him -- after his resurrection and gives them the authority to forgive AND retain sins.
