Prof. Dr. Fernando de Lima Caneppele of the University of São Paulo (USP) gives an introduction to agrivoltaic systems: concept, configuration and dual land use in agriculture and energy. He explores the benefits of shading: reduced evapotranspiration and better microclimate for crops. Impact on water efficiency (WUE): increased water retention in the soil and less need for irrigation. Practical examples in Brazil: projects in the semi-arid region with significant water savings and increased productivity. Contribution to the sustainable energy transition and regional water security. Prof. Dr. Fernando de Lima Caneppele is an Associate Professor at the University of São Paulo (USP), Pirassununga Campus, Researcher at GEPEA Poli USP, Associate Researcher at GESEL UFRJ and was a Researcher at the Institute for Advanced Studies (IEA/USP) in the period 2024-2025. Electrical engineer with a master's, doctorate, postdoctoral degree and associate professor in the energy area, he works with a focus on Energy in a nexialist way and is a specialist in Energy Transition and Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG7). His academic and professional career is dedicated to the energy sector, contributing to research, teaching, extension, scientific dissemination, training and consulting.
