This is actually a big match, but this whole series of matches Kramnik versus Anand came in ten years late. Vladimir and Vishy were to meet at the end of the nineties, when they were Kasparov's main two opponents in the fight for the chess crown. That's even what Garry thought! In 1998 he tried to have them play a qualifying match together... but Anand refused. Two years later, in 2000, he refused once more - this time, a match against Kasparov, thus giving Kramnik his spot. Kramnik seized his chance, took the World Champion down, after which chess history took a new turn. As the "Classical World Champion", Kramnik played matches for the title against Leko in 2004 and against Topalov in 2006, whereas Anand became the FIDE World Champion, first in the knockout format in 2000, and later in a round robin championship in 2007. They faced off thanks to a series of unifying measures in 2008, when chess, eventually, was awarded one and only one World Champion. The 38 year-old Anand won, by showing incredible drive... He did so unequivocally, not giving the 33 year-old Kramnik a chance in their match in Bonn, by winning 6.5-4.5, thus becoming the new King of chess. "In this match I played the role of Kasparov -says Kramnik, blaming himself-. I made all the possible mistakes, and he severely punished me, as I had done myself before!" Why did Kramnik lose? What did he do wrong? What was Vishy Anand's secret? Could Vladimir rematch him, did he have such an option? You will learn about this and much more, in an open discussion between Ilya Levitov and former World Champion Vladimir Kramnik. 0:00 β Introduction 1:50 β In the match versus Anand, Kramnik "put himself in Kasparov's shoes" 4:00 β How to recover after a match? 6:30 β Total support after the match against Topalov in 2006 9:30 β What would have happened, if Topalov had won the match? 13:30 β The World Champion title has to be played out in a match 15:20 β Chess World Champion, the most valuable of all titles? 19:55 β Why did Kramnik take part in the 2007 round robin World Championship? 25:40 β What would have happened, if Kramnik had won in Mexico? 28:15 β "I wanted to win, in order to face Topalov once more!" 30:40 β "I never disputed Anand's title in 2007!" 31:20 β Kramnik found a sponsor for two cycles, but FIDE buried it alive 35:45 β How Kramnik rated Anand as a chess player before Mexico 39:25 β Why couldn't anyone match Anand? 40:53 β How important is the view from the window, and why change rooms in hotels? 41:40 β "We played in Mexico in a place where players got mugged" 44:20 β How Josef Resch organised the match with Anand in Bonn 48:40 β A match for the ages between two role models in Bonn! 49:45 β "Mistakes even prior to the match against Anand!" 51:00 β Rublevsky and Leko instead of Motylev and Svidler 52:40 β Three different people 54:55 β "I had a creativity crisis" 56:55 β Β«Both me and my team were emptyΒ» 58:46 β Kramnik's mistakes 59:10 β Anand's strong sides 1:02:20 β Β«If I lose the match, then I'll lose it with whiteΒ» 1:03:20 β Β«If you overpress with white, he's ready to pounce on you...Β» 1:05:35 β Β«Vishy watched engine games, whereas I didn't!Β» 1:07:55 - Anand ran the Β«MeranΒ» inside out with computers! 1.09:35 β Β«I was outdated with regards to working with computersΒ» 1:10:30 β Β«Anand was not only better preparedΒ» 1:11:25 β Β«Had I prepared correctly, I could have won the matchΒ» 1:14:05 β Β«To me this is still a mystery: how come I didn't do anything in time?Β» 1:15:05 β Β«I gave ideas on which I didn't work myself!Β» 1:18:20 β Game prior to the match: classical, Anand-Kramnik, Wijk an Zee 2008 1:19:35 β Β«All the games demonstrate things, and Vishy drew the best conclusionsΒ» 1:34:50 β Β«A game in which there were many things to understandΒ» 1:35:15 β Game prior to the match: blindfold, Anand-Kramnik, Monaco 2008 1:36:30 β Game prior to the match: rapid, Anand-Kramnik, Monaco 2008 1:37:35 β Β«I took over little by little, thus confirming, that that's how I should play against him!Β» 1:47:40 β Β«In positional games I can beat him, but if he disentangles, it might end up badlyβ¦Β» 1:50:15 β Β«We worked a lot, but the results were disappointingβ¦Β» 1:52:20 β Β«In the Slav we weren't able to find anythingΒ» 1:54:20 β Β«Hoping Vishy prepared sidelinesβ¦Β» β Sign up to the channel https://bit.ly/Levitov and don't forget to click on ποΈ π Be the first to watch the new streams and videos π» Our group on VKontakte : https://vk.cc/ayH4HW π± Our Telegram channel : https://t.me/chess π₯ Our Twitch channel- Β Β /Β levitovchessΒ Β Don't miss what's most important for you on the Levitov Chess channel: we regularly do commentary with the best chess players; we analyse the games of the leading players we release educational content; we teach chess to the beginners; we have a look as various chess contents, and many more
